Stepping out into the mostly unknown world of adoption was an exciting, though scary, venture for us. We didn’t know how we’d be judged and whether those making their assessment of us would look at us with an open mind and an open heart. All we wanted was for someone to see us for who we are and make the clear objective decision of whether we could provide a loving, healthy, stable and nurturing home for a child in need of a home and a family. Amy Imber and Connecting Hearts Adoption Services did just that. We were very lucky to get connected with Amy Imber from Connecting Hearts Adoption Services from the start. Amy talked us through the adoption process and made us feel comfortable as a gay couple hoping to adopt. She completed our home study. But let me say that Amy did SO MUCH more than that for us. Yes, she made us feel comfortable and helped make the home study process less stressful. But it didn’t end there. She provided us with resources and helped guide us in the right direction on how to have a successful adoption as a gay couple. Amy has worked with many attorneys and agencies in the industry and got us connected with the right team of people. She even referred the designer who put together our adoption profile! She became “my person”. Amy was always there to answer any & ALL of my questions, talk me off the ledge and set me straight when I needed it. We are forever grateful for Amy Imber and couldn’t imagine this life changing experience without her as a part of it. Amy will always have a very special place in my heart. Our baby boy was born in March. We’ve had our first post placement visit this past week. We were so excited for Amy to meet Luke Matthew. But I was also excited to give her the world’s biggest hug and say thanks for all that she did for us.
My partner and I always knew we wanted to start a family. We fall into the “non-traditional” category but we NEVER felt that way with Amy or those we worked with. MY HUSBAND AND I BEGAN THE ADOPTION PROCESS AND RESEARCH WITH A REFERENCE FROM A FRIEND AT WORK, A YOUND LADY, WHO IS ALSO LGBT AND HAD WORKED WITH CONNECTING HEARTS ADOPTION AGENCY FOR HER HOME STUDY. I ASKED HER HOW SHE STARTED THE PROCESS TO WHICH SHE GAVE ME AMY’S NAME AND THE WEBSITE OF CONNECTINGHEARTSADOPTION.COM. FROM THE MOMENT THAT I CALLED AMY, THINGS JUST FELT RIGHT. SHE EXPLAINED THE PROCESS AND WE FELT VERY COMFORTABLE AND WELCOME AS BEING LGBT. WE ARrANGED OUR HOME VISIT WITH AMY AND SHORTLY AFTER OUR CONVERSATION AND ARRANGING SCHEDULES WE MET AMY AT OUR HOUSE. SHE WAS VERY PLEASANT AND DOWN TO EARTH, EASY TO TALK TO. SHE PEGGED MY HUSBAND AS THE MORE “DOWN TO BUSINESS” TYPE AND MYSELF AS “THE EXPRESSIVE AND COMICAL” OF THE RELATIONSHIP PRETTY FAST, BUT EVERYONE SAYS WE ARE EACH OTHERS YING AND YANG…SO IT MAKES SENSE. WE WALKED THE HOUSE AND SAT AND DISCUSSED OUR VIEWS AND WHAT WE WERE LOOKING FOR IN OUR ADOPTION. AMY EDUCATED US ON THE PROCESS OF ADOPTION AND WHAT TO EXPECT. A MONTH PASSED AND SHE REACHED OUT TO US AND FOUND AN ADOPTION THAT FIT OUR PROFILE FOR A MARRIED, SAME SEX MALE COUPLE AND WE QUICKLY RESPONDED AND AS THE SAY IN THE MOVIES…THE REST WAS HISTORY. JUST 9 DAYS AGO WE WERE BLESSED WITH A BRAND NEW BABY GIRL AND IT ALL STARTED WITH AMY AND THE WONDERFUL TEAM AT CONNECTING HEARTS. TO ME, IT FELT THAT CONNECTING HEARTS AND AMY LOOK FOR READY, CARING, AND LOVING PARENTS AND SEE THAT LGBT APPLICANTS ARE NO DIFFERENT IN WANTING TO GROW THEIR FAMILY WITH LOVE! I LOVE OUR DAUGHTER MORE AND MORE WITH EACH PASSING DAY AND MY HUSBAND AND I CANT THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR TAKING PART IN MAKING THAT HAPPEN. THANK YOU AMY FOR EVERYTHING!
