Discovery UMC has a well-integrated membership that includes LGBT persons in the congregation and in lay leadership. Their Hospitality Group is part of the Reconciling Ministries Network, which works toward LGBTQ inclusion in the United Methodist Church. Sunday services, small groups, and social events show a general welcoming and acceptance of straight, gay, lesbian, and queer alike.
One area of concern seems to be lack of clarity in restroom use, since the traditional “men” and “women” labels are used there. Persons who identify as trans have expressed concern about which restroom is okay to use, and concerns expressed to leadership regarding this were not addressed (not sure if that’s because they didn’t have an answer or because they didn’t get the message).
