Kat Lawson has been my counselor for some time now. I’m a gay man with borderline personality disorder, and Ms. Lawson just so happens to specialize in personality disorders as well as “people with Autism Spectrum Disorder and LGBT clients.” She assists people with major depression (me, too) and bipolar disorder. I am reviewing her here because never in my history of seeing therapists (I’ve been going to them since I was 19 and I’m 35 now) have I encountered a more professional, analytical, relatable, and accepting counselor. I don’t know her methods completely but she has made me realize things about myself that I never would have come to think of just by asking the right questions. She’s also (taken from her website) “[National] Member of Association for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues in Counseling” and “Member of Alabama Association for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues in Counseling.” It is something excellent to be greeted by her in her waiting room every two weeks and realize I’m seeing the face of someone who truly believes in me and has my best interests in mind. I would suggest that anyone see her, but especially LGBT clients who seek an eclectic, open-minded, and qualified mental health professional.
